The world suffers. But most men have their eyes and ears closed. They do not see the unbroken stream of tears flowing through life; they do not hear the cry of distress continually pervading the world. Their own little grief or joy bars their sight, deafens their ears. Bound by selfishness, their hearts turn stiff and narrow. Being stiff and narrow, how should they be able to strive for any higher goal, to realize that only release from selfish craving will effect their own freedom from suffering?

Bangkok versus Isaan, No Contest in Thailand.

5 days out of Isaan, and in Bangkok, for a 64 year old man who has spent most of his past 17 years north of Korat, can be to say the least, interesting. 2 years ago when I was last in Bangkok places like Terminal 21, a new lifestyle mall in downtown Bangkok did not exist. And just what is a lifestyle mall? 2 years ago many had smartphones, but they were tied to wireless hotspots, while today there is ample 3G service and everyone has their face stuck in a phone, or staring brainless at the TVs on the skytrain or the subway. Except for little and many not so little girls in uniform giggling together I saw very few people talking to each other. Even at a meal people do not talk together, but have intercourse with their appliance.
