ChomDao Resort And Restaurant,Sawang Daen Din,Sakon Nakhon,Thailand

The ChumDao Resort in Sawang Daen Din,Sakon Nakhon is a popular place for government meetings, conventions and the like. I used to stay there with some regularity, but had not visited in over a year. I has quite please with the state of the restaurant and property, but found the wifi an inprovement over the old system, but not as adequate as I would want.
If you do plan on visiting be sure to book ahead as the property is often fully booked.
The rooms in the hotel, a 3 story structure range from 600 Baht for ground floor to 500 for the upper 2. I will confirm bungalow prices in the next couple weeks. There is no swimming pool, but the Karaoke Bungalows are quite popular with the Thais. I’ll give the wifi 6 out of 10. A bit slow.

Sakon Nakhon,Thailand,Chinese New Year the Last Evening 12.02.13

Last night sounded like big band night at the Chinese New Year Fair in Sakon Nakhon and they did a pretty good job music wise. Generally my ears get a bit of a torture at these fairs, but the music the three nights of the fair were neither too loud nor too bad. The Ball Room Dancers? went on for hours constantly recruiting passers by.
There was a small exhibit of period photographs and an overhead projector presentation, but the lighting was no good for the projector and no one took an interest in sorting it out.
Ran in tome some acquaintances and ended up imbibing a fair amount of Beer Leo, sadly no Chang on hand. I must say it is much nicer having these things on the street as that allow the sale of adult beverages.

More,Chinese New Year,Sakon Nakhon,Thailand

The evening of the 11th seemed to be as big and well attended as the 10th. The Vietnamese community has a prominent place in the celebrations and is recognizable by their well known costumes, especially the Ao Dai the women wear. Food, once again was everywhere and there was plenty of beer and adult beverage available. Plenty of music and performances not only on the main stage, but on side stages as well. For some reason it all worked well and one site’s sound did no seem to interfere with the others. The group of dancers pictured here seemed to be dressed quite like the dancers in this youtube video, but did not have anywhere near the same routine.
This event here in Sakon Nakhon continues to show once again just what can be done for the families and people on Northeast Thailand if the Tourism Authority of Thailand and other organizations stay out of the way.

Chinese New Year 2013,Sakon Nakhon,Thailand, Foodgasm

I looked at a few posts by other people around Thailand and noticed fowl in the fotos, but not so in Sakon Nakhon. Seems everyone was tired of the birds and for once were free from the barbie. Or perhaps the entire town was sold out. Whatever the case there was no shortage of food and for the VEGETARIANS in the group have a nice glass of fruit juice. Pork ruled,on the stick or on the plate there was plenty of pork on the grill.
No one got adventuresome and the grilled pork at one booth was the same as at the other 10 and the kebabs were uniform as well. Thai people and Chinese Thai included are not in the least daring when it comes to food so little different is ever seen at these events, It is only in the last few years sushi has made an entrance in Isaan.

Khon Kaen Visit December 2011

20121216_060546Arriving on the outskirts of Khon Kaen I confirmed my opinion that traffic is growing by leaps and bounds in the past 5 months and was reinforced over the next few days. We stayed along Beung Kaen Nakhon at the B and b Hotel. At 550 Baht per night and wifi that works it is good value at a good location. By good location I mean morning walks around the Beung and quiet. Don’t forget toclick on the title to view the entire post.
