It’s been a fair while since I have posted here, while I have been devoting most of my time to learning about 3G and live broadcasting for the past few months.
First of all today’s Podcast Episode 49 is a replay of a previous post in Udon. The more I travel through Isaan, more and more, the more I see how well Bangkok is doing at corrupting Isaan. Here I speak of the Religion of Retail. People spend hour after hour wondering aimlessly through both outdoor and indoor shopping centers,malls and arcades. University students now list shopping as a hobby.It’s not that there is much of a selection, the same panties, bras, jeans, shorts, socks, geegaws, calculators, locks in stall after stall. The new malls, the Central Plazas are wher people go to cool down on a hot day , No one with bags in their hands, just glazed over eyes from mindlessly wandering the chilled caverns of the modern malls. Bahn Nok from the villages staring at awe at the lifts (elevators) and escalators. Aircon is the God and Malls are the temples in Northeast Thailand

Having done tours of the clothing and dry good markets in Udon Thani, Thailand it was time to wet my whistle, have a bite to eat and comment on the world going by. With a fine TRUE 3G signal I continued to twitcast live.

TRUE 3G promotions and more in northeast Thailand

I received a couple of SMS messages from TRUE that caused some confusion, and since I was in Udon and had not visited that office yet I strolled in. I feel bad for the staff at TRUE because the company runs more promotions and plans than any employee could ever figure out. Every time I go into a TRUE office it is full of people with billing, promotion and after sales problems

The New Central Plaza Udon 17.05.12

They have given the old “Complex”more than a facelift, it’s even more than on steroids, it’s a miraculous rebuild, especially for those of us who remember the replacement to the 1st complex more than 16 years ago. This like the one in Khon Kaen seems to sit empty, with no one carrying a purchase and staff talking to themselves. Oh well everyone from the villages will fill the place for the wekend

If you look back in the archives from the days of the floods you can see 3 of the 4 gates spewing water and the levels on the Pong River, while now all is quiet.

During the flooding last yer I drove up to this area a number of times and waded to crotch deep. Now the water have abated and you can see once again how flat Isaan is and how susceptible to flooding it is.Now instead od being on the fringe of Ubol Rattana reservoir you can’t even see it. And outside this small town I get a 3G signal and can broadcast live.

The golf course at Ubol Rattana Dam Khon Kaen Northeast Thailand 15.05.12

I started off for Nong Bua Lam Phu early and arrived at Ubol Rattana after 0600 under threatening skies. My 1st stop for the day was here at the golf course to give you a glimpse of what is arguably the best 18 hole course in Isaan. At 300 baht for weekday greenfees plus caddie and cart a twosome still gets away at well unber 900 baht including tip and a beer.
